The due date is property specific

A general annual requirement does not replace the date on a municipal notice. An assembly's installation date, prior test, registration status and enforcement history can affect the next action.

Keep the account number, assembly details and due date together. A provider cannot reliably infer every reporting field from the street address alone.

Testing and submission are separate steps

The field test produces readings and a result. The municipality still needs the accepted form or portal submission, and some programs require a fee with a passing report.

Mission and Maple Ridge bylaws describe a 30-day window for delivering an acceptable test report. That does not give an owner permission to ignore an earlier deadline printed on a notice.

New and unregistered assemblies

New installations can have a different reporting path from annual retests. Surrey's portal guidance identifies a 14-day requirement for newly installed or previously unregistered devices.

The Township of Langley directs new-installation reports to its Building department while annual retest reports go to Engineering. Sending a correct test to the wrong workflow can still leave the record incomplete.

A practical annual calendar

Record the next due month immediately after the passing submission. Contact the site several weeks before that month, confirm that the device is accessible and send the notice to the tester.

• 60 days before: confirm device inventory and contacts
• 30 days before: book access and operational coordination
• Test day: retain readings and repair approvals
• After the test: confirm accepted submission and payment
• Year end: reconcile every property against its records

What to do with an overdue notice

Book the test promptly, provide the complete notice and tell the provider that the account may be overdue. Do not backdate a report or assume that a repair invoice closes the municipal record.

If access, shutdown approval or parts delay the passing test, communicate with the municipality using the contact information on the notice. Only the issuing authority can confirm enforcement options or an extension.
